As we have been talking about, Google is an excellent resource for teaching and learning. We already explored the endless possibilities that Google Search can bring to any learning environment and how to use it efficiently. I think it was great! And many of your comments enhanced those ideas with more details and different point of views. Thank you.

This week, I will spend some time with Google Drive and its tools. I hope that by the end of this blog entry and discussion you have a good understanding of Google Drive tools and start thinking about how it can be applied to support any instruction and learning.

I have been using google for a long time now, and I imagine that many of you, if not all, use it as well. I open Google when I need to search for different topics, pictures, books, places, and more. But when I think about how my students can use Google search in a way they understand what they are doing and get what they need, it always concerns me. Even though Google makes searching straightforward, we need to remember that word choices and order are highly relevant to the results, and even when doing it right, we might end up getting undesirable content. That has probably happened multiple times to all of us.

Google tools for teaching and learning... what’s that?

This was exactly the expression of one of my ESL adult students when I "revealed the secret" in class about Google tools for teaching and learning just before we went to the computer lab. Everything started like usual, I am always looking for ways to maintain my students engaged and motivated to learn even in tough times. This is the reality, many immigrants that come through the refugee programs, lotteries, by crossing the borders, and more are in many ways in need of adjusting their experiences to a new way of living. One big piece of those adjustments is learning the language.
